Finally, the real reason for IPL teams ignoring ‘Green Color Jersey’ since the inaugural edition of IPL 2008 has been disclosed.
The start of 2023 season will be done by champion Gujarat Titans as they will will face the Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the IPL 2023 season on March 31 in Ahmedabad. Since 2019, this will be the league’s first return to its regular home-and-away format in India.
The first weekend of the IPL will feature games from all ten teams and will conclude on March 26, five days after the Women’s Premier League final. IPL teams have been divided into two groups, as they were last season. MI, KKR, RR, DC, and LSG are in Group B, while CSK, RCB, GT, PBKS, and SRH are in Group A.
Each team will play 14 league matches in total, with each team playing the five teams in the opposing group twice and the other four teams in their own group once. This is a departure from the previous season. The league stage would last 52 days, from March 31 to May 21, and would be held in 12 cities, with 18 doubleheaders and a total of 70 games.
In addition to the ten regular venues of Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Mohali, some games will be played in Guwahati, the Royals’ second home, and Dharamsala, the Kings’ second home.
So, IPL was started from 2008 but it was not an easy road as Lalit Modi decided to put his dream into action in 1996. He conceptualized the Indian Cricket League. The competition was set to be a 50-over tournament between eight city-based teams. He decided that the teams would be sold as franchises, with ESPN broadcasting the matches and paying the BCCI an annual royalty.
The BCCI, which agreed to provide grounds and access to Indian team players, approved the league. Modi then spent vast sums of money to bring in the necessary players. During a ceremony in New Delhi on September 12, 2007, Modi formally launched the Indian Premier League. Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Glenn McGrath, and Stephen Fleming were among those who attended the launch.
During the World T20, Modi met with the players and informed them of their upcoming salaries and other IPL benefits. The players were on board, according to a report by Columbia Business School.
Modi was well aware that various cricket boards around the world would have to allow their players to travel to India for nearly two months each year. As a result, the then-BCCI vice-president met with administrators from various cricket boards.
Lalit Modi and his team were ready to launch a league that would forever change Indian cricket after they devised a strategy for broadcasters. On April 18, 2008, the first IPL match was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. But the question that every citizen has is the color of their favorite team’s jersey. While most teams prefer blue, there are some exceptions, such as KKR and RCB, whose jerseys are different.
So why IPL teams don’t wear ‘Green Color Jersey’?
The color green is associated with Pakistan’s cricket team, which may not be a favorable association for some Indian cricket fans due to the intense India-Pakistan cricket rivalry.
Another reason could be that there are already many teams in the IPL that wear various shades of green, such as Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, making it difficult for a new team to stand out and establish a distinct identity.
It’s also worth noting that team jerseys are frequently chosen for their visual appeal and marketability, and green may not be as popular among Indian cricket fans as other colors such as blue, yellow, or red.
The decision to choose a team’s jersey color is ultimately up to the team owners and management, who may have their own reasons for not going with a green jersey.
The Indian Premier League 2023 is the 16th season of the IPL. The Indian Premier League is a Twenty20 tournament. This cricket tournament will be celebrating its 16th anniversary in 2023. The Indian Premier League tournament will be divided into the group stage and playoff matches.
