KKR is a franchise that constantly supports young players, but the release of players has always been a source of contention because released players have gone on to achieve great success.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is without a doubt one of the world’s most popular and lucrative cricket tournaments. Every year, teams go to great lengths to sign the greatest players and assemble a powerful squad capable of winning the coveted Cup. However, not all players make the cut, and others are let go by their teams. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) surprised many by releasing some of their top Indian players. While this was a loss for KKR, it was surely a huge chance for the five players who were released.
Who are these characters, and what distinguishes them? This article looks at the top five Indian players released by KKR and what they bring to the table. Check Out The Names:
1. Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill, a top-order batsman, joined KKR in 2018. In his first season, he showed a lot of promise and was projected to be a vital player for the squad in the future. However, he was released by KKR prior to the 2022 season and was signed by Gujarat Gianta. Since then, he has established himself as one of the country’s best young batsmen, as well as a regular member of the Indian cricket squad.
Gill has shown great promise in his international career thus far, scoring a double-century in one-day internationals. Gill is regarded as one of India’s most promising young batters, and his achievements in local cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) have garnered much attention. According to fans, this should be the franchise’s biggest regret.
2. Rahul Tripathi
Rahul Tripathi, a middle-order batsman, joined KKR in 2018. In his rookie season, he contributed several helpful innings for the squad and was projected to be a significant contributor in the future. However, he was released by KKR prior to the 2021 season and was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has now become a regular member of the SRH playing XI and has contributed some match-winning innings to the team.

Rahul Tripathi was recently named to Team India’s T20I squad after performing well in the 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which earned him this opportunity. Following the election, KKR fans blame the team for letting him depart.
3. Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson was a member of the KKR squad in the 2012 edition of the IPL, but he is forced to sit out the entire season as the Kolkata-based club decides against chopping and changing the lineup too much, finally winning the trophy for the first time under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy. Gambhir is delighted with Samson’s “special talent,” so he decides to keep him for the upcoming season as well. The decision appears to be perfectly justified, given that the youngster, still only 18, has shown promise, consistently performing for India’s Under-19 team.

The 2015 season is average for both KKR and Samson, as the defending champions failed to qualify for the knockout stages, and Samson, aside from a clinical 76 off 46 balls against Mumbai, has a sub-par season by his standards, scoring runs at an average of 20.40 and a strike rate of 125.15. Gautam, on the other hand, believes in the youngster and has him in his plans for next season. Meanwhile, Samson has been included in the Zimbabwe squad.
When the Rajasthan Royals play, Samson becomes the franchise’s face, and his selection to the national squad appears to be a foregone conclusion. Selectors recognize this purple patch and include him in the Asia Cup 50-over squad. Batting fourth, he demonstrated considerable determination and technical ability to warrant his selection. Imagine, if Sanju Samson would have been still part of KKR.
4. Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami has matured as a bowler since making his debut for India. Shami is known for his upright seam stance, but he is also proficient with the old ball and can reverse it. Qualities are sufficient to make life difficult for batsmen all around the world.

Mohammed Shami received only a few opportunities while playing for his local side, the Kolkata Knight Riders. Mohammed Shami, on the other hand, acknowledges great Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram for helping mold his bowling career during their time together with the Kolkata Knight Riders.
5. Shivam Mavi
The KKR roster included three outstanding talents from the 2018 U-19 World Cup squad. Despite the departures of Shubman Gill and Kamlesh Nagarkoti throughout the years, KKR retained Shivam Mavi despite his recurrent injuries.

The right-arm seamer could also bat a little but was released by the team because they thought he was overpaid. Mavi got 11 wickets in nine matches in the 2021 tournament, with an economy of 7.24. He was expected to be the team’s main bowler once more. However, he was unable to recreate his performance in IPL 2022, as Mavi routinely handed away 30+ runs while taking only four wickets in the first five matches.
As a result, the team’s decision to part ways with Mavi in search of a replacement player to bolster their fast-bowling arsenal next season comes as no surprise. Meanwhile, Shivam Mavi has recently played for Indian Team and done a fair job as well.
